USFS has requested CMC Denver Trails Committee to clear avalanche debris in the form of down trees on Shelf Lake Trail in Geneva Basin - ASAP!    Two trips are in the schedule for the second week of August on the 8th and 10th.  We are especially interested in certified sawyers although it appears many of the down timber do not require a crosscut saw.  This is a typical situation and you do not have to have saw experience to come along.   So this activity is lopper, pruning saw, (and axe for those inclined) to remove limbs, large pruning and crosscut saw for bucking (cutting up) the trunks.  While this equipment does have to be carried up 1000+ feet it is not heavy.   You certainly do not have to come on both trips.  Joining either is fine and if you can come to both that is great.  We provide all tools except work gloves but feel free to bring your own tools if you prefer.

Notes

New Members - if new to CMC, why not try out some "trail work".  Almost all trails on public lands in Colorado are maintained by volunteers (if they are maintained at all).  CMC contributes to this effort at the state, group, and individual level.  The trip at this schedule page trip is sponsored by CMC Denver Group Trails Committee in cooperation with the US Forest Service.  We do one day trips about every other week for May to September in the Front Range, usually on Saturday but occasionally on a weekday.  Projects include trail, bridge, drainage structure, steps, fencing, construction and maintenance, sign placement, and trail vegetation clearing from willows to big trees.  We are volunteers and not employees so each works at their own pace and no pressure to get a job done.  We supply all tools except work gloves (well, I usually have some spares).
