Blue Lake is very popular and has a little of everything! Beautiful views, wildflowers, alpine lakes, waterfalls—this hike has it all.  The Mitchell Trailhead starts out through the evergreens, gradual incline to Mitchell Lake, then log paths through the marshes and then up a drier, rocky section of the trail. At the 2.5-mile mark Blue Lake appears in the cirque below the towering summits of Mt. Toll and Paiute Peak.  Blue Lake covers almost 23 acres, is almost 100 feet deep, and stocked with cut-throat trout. Take your lunch and enjoy the panoramic views and alpine splendor.  There’s a bathroom at the Mitchell Trailhead parking lot. We will stop in Nederland at the Blue Owl for ice cream on the way back.

Please bring your 10 essentials, plenty of water, layers, rain gear, and your first aid kit with your completed yellow emergency card.  Ask the leader if you do not have a yellow card.  Let Jeff know before the trip if you have any medical conditions that might affect the trip (e.g., asthma, cardiac or respiratory issues, high blood pressure, diabetes, etc.).

Poles are recommended given the uneven trail conditions.

If you need to cancel - please cancel online and call the leader. If you have questions or concerns, email or call the leader. Look for an email the night before the hike for weather and other updates.
