Popular trail - deservedly so - to a jewel of a mountain lake at the foot of Mt. Toll in the Indian Peaks Wilderness. Great views of Mt. Audobon, and Pauite Peak. Excellent chance of sighting moose and MANY wildflowers.

Roundtrip trail is 6 miles BUT chances are that the immediate parking area will be full by the time we get there, so we'll have to park 1/2 mile away at Brainard Lake, possibly. Therefore, I have isted this as a 7 mile RT hike.

We'll meet at CMC COORS TEK Parking lot at 7 a.m. east of CMC and carpool to Brainard Lake entrance to the Indian Peaks. Please bring National Park passes if you have them, as they are honored at the entrance.

Directions :

10th WEST to Washington Street

North on Washington Street to Highway 58 ("Golden Freeway") (make a left turn from Washington, over the bridge, on to 58)

West on Highway 58 to Highway 93 (first traffic light)

North on Highway 93 (right turn) through Golden, to Route 72 (traffic light)

West (left) on Route 72 to Nederland, approx 40 miles

At traffic circle, where one enters Nederland, continue straight on Highway 72, also known as the Peak to Peak Highway.

Near the town of Ward (not much of a town), make a sharp left to the BRAINARD LAKE Parking area (turn comes up quickly, and there is only one sign).

Proceed to entrance station and then to MICHELL AND BLUE LAKE Parking area.

We will park there if possible. If there are not enough spaces, please wait for all of the cars to arrive in that parking lot anyway, and then we will caravan to Brainard Lake Parking area together, and hike from there.

Expected time back at CMC lot is approximately 2:30 - 3 pm

There are toilets at the Trailhead.

We can stop in Nederland for ice cream or coffee on the way home !

Bring raingear, 10 essentials, poles (if you use them - there are a few slick rocky spots, and one river crossing on logs, with no handrails - and the logs can be wet.)

Sorry it is past the registration deadline for this event.
