This wilderness is named for Lost Creek, a stream whose watercourse flows above and below ground several times over the course of about 5 miles. The underground sections are formed by enormous boulders that bury the watercourse to the eye but don't block the creek's flow. These boulders also form rock rooms, balanced rocks and other unusual and interesting features.

The goal of this exploratory trip is to explore this unusual section of Lost Creek. To reach this area we'll backpack in on the first day, starting at the east Wigwam trailhead (8200 ft.) and hiking west on the Wigwam Trail, south on the Goose Creek Trail and west on the McCurdy Park trail, setting up a basecamp in the vicinity of Refrigerator Gulch (Approximately 7 miles, 2000 ft. elevation gain, 1300 ft. loss). The second and third day will be spent dayhiking and exploring the Lost Creek drainage and vicinity. On the fourth day we'll reverse the route of the first day.

Participants should be prepared for some scrambling as we explore Lost Creek. This may include continuous walking in wet streambeds so footware should give adequate support, protection and traction even when wet.
