Details

Joint hike with the conservation group "Wild Connections". Enjoy hiking the Ben Tyler trail on the west side off Lost Park road. The trail follows beautiful Rock Creek as it enters the Lost Creek Wilderness passing by the Colorado trail. Along the way we will observe and talk about the rehabilitation of the riparian habitat in a project done last year with the Forest Service. The project curtailed access of motor vehicles down to the creek near the wilderness boundary repairing damage to the stream banks, reducing trail spurs and uncontrolled camping. We will also note where the road has been obliterated and closed at the access point. In addition to closing off access to the creek by vehicles, several miles of inappropriate road track was severed from motor vehicle access. The project lessens the disturbance to wildlife habitat and made way for the reintroduction of the threatened greenback cutthroat trout.

Notes

Please bring the 10 essentials including rain gear, food and water.

Be aware in late August that the nearby Shawnee fire closed this trailhead temporarily though it was not part of the fire. So the trip will depend on the Forest Service re-opening the trail. The leader will stay abreast of this and advise particpants. If rescheduling becomes necessary, possible dates include September 27, 28, or 29.
