Please email, phone, or text the trip leader if you need to cancel. There have been a rash of “no shows” at the carpool meet-up locations requiring groups to stand around waiting for the no show participant to not arrive.

We will meet at The Fort restaurant near Morrison at 6:30am for a no later than 6:45am departure.

To get to The Fort parking area drive south on US 285, then exit right onto CO 8 (Morrison exit). We will park a few hundred feet past the Fort restaurant. You should see my bright yellow Nissan Xterra off to the right side of the road.

It is desirable at this point to arrange car pools which will allow some hikers to stop at the Snowpack Taproom (just south of Conifer) for refreshments after the hike, and others to more quickly return to Denver.

We will start the trip by hiking up through a maze of old and confusing logging roads. After an hour or so when we are generally north of Topaz Mountain we will leave the road and hike south cross-county to the SE summit of Topaz. When ready, we will continue NW to the secondary Topaz summit, then continue NW toward North Tarryall Peak. We will approach the summit of Tarryall from the more gentle NE side. At some point we will decide to leave the summit and head NE, cross-country again, to finally pick up one of the logging roads that will take us back to the cars.

This is somewhat of an exploratory hike, will consist of a large portion of off-trail hiking through steep terrain, and at a moderate but deliberate pace.

Notes

Please bring your 10 essentials, warm clothing if it’s cool and cool clothing if it’s warm, and rain gear.
