NOTE THE OFF-TRAIL PORTION OF THIS TRIP HAS ROCKS AND TREES it is not a technical climb (only Class 2+) but does require actually climbing up a couple rocks in your snowshoes and does require you to use your hands to climb the rocks just a bit!!! That is why it is listed as a Difficult B.

The group will start at Bear Lake and proceed down on trail (I am not optimistic there will be parking at Glacier Gorge unless we arrive earlier than required to do this hike). IF the wind is not too bad we will continue on the Glacier Gorge Trail (because it has better views, but it is very exposed to wind). If wind is significant we will proceed up the Winter Trail (or the Fire Trail if we don't recieve adequate snow before the trip). In either case when we get to the Loch/Mills Lake intersection we will proceed on trail to Mills Lake. After taking in the breathtaking views of Longs/Keyboard of the Winds/Pagoda/etc and taking  photos we will start our off trail adventure.

We will skirt to the south-east of the rock face and proceed up a small drainage towards a saddle between the two Middle Glacier Knobs. IF there is an easy way to the saddle I did not find it during scouting. Soooo, expect to have to squeeze in between rocks/trees and climb a few rocks with your snowshoes on. Near the summit of the western knob the solid rock is wind swept so some may want to remove snowshoes. After summiting this knob (and sending selfies to Mom) we will retreat to the saddle and climb up the eastern of the two knobs. Once again the rock will probably be clear of snow so we may choose to leave (and mark with a gps) our snowshoes to climb to the top. After summiting we will put snowshoes back on to return down to Mills Lake. For here the group will proceed on trail to the Loch/Mills junction then down the winter trail (or Fire Trail depending on how much snow we recieve) back to the Glacier Gorge Trail and back to the trailhead.
