Details

This will be a casually paced ski tour around a well-established, and often groomed, loop trail beginning and ending at the Moose Visitor Center located a few miles west of Cameron Pass.  Most of the route is along flat or gently rolling terrain with a few moderate hills along the way.

The route skirts some large meadows which are often used by moose and other wildlife, with dramatic views of the high peaks above Cameron Pass, such as Iron Mountain and the Nokhu Crags.

Good downhill turning skills are not needed on this route, but skiers do need reasonable ability to control skis on the small downhill sections, and to make gentle turns at the bottom of the hills.  Although perhaps not well suited to outright beginners, this trip is appropriate for those with basic XC skills and experience.  Lightweight nordic trail skis are appropriate.  For those with the proper equipment and skills, there are one or two sections where one might have the option of climbing up some distance to make a few turns in powder on 12-18 degree slopes.  This loop is expected to take perhaps 4-5 hours on trail.
