This trip was originally going to ski East Twin Lake. However, Laramie River road is closed for the winter and to all recreation activities. Therefore the venue was changed to Zimmerman to Meadows trailhead. Mileage for both was about 7 miles. This trip will begin with a good climb to Zimmerman Lake. Then nice rolling terrain heading downhill to the Meadows trailhead. It is one of my favorite XC ski trails in the upper Poudre area.

This is a classic Cameron Pass XC ski route.  This will be a point-to-point trip with a short car shuttle.  We will leave a vehicle at the Meadows parking lot and start our ski at the Zimmerman Trailhead five miles up the road.

This will be a casually paced trip. From the trailhead we will ski up ~600 feet to Zimmerman Lake area, maybe do the loop trail around the lake, and then descend the Meadows Trail to Long Draw Road ~1200 feet below Zimmerman Lake.   Despite its name, the Meadows Trail mostly traverses rolling terrain through forested areas with several short but fun downslopes.  Total elevation gain for this trip is ~800 feet and the total descent is ~1400 feet.

I would recommend waxless skis. Kicker skins could be useful for the initial climb to Zimmerman Lake and if we encounter any icy conditions. Full skins should not be necessary. If you are on waxable skies, I would strongly recommend full skins or kicker skins.

I would recommend students of the beginning XC class sign up for this trip. It will be very good trip for you to continue to hone your XC skiing skills.

Sorry it is past the registration deadline for this event.
