Details

Have you parked at the Mt. Margaret Trailhead along the Red Feather Lakes Road and hiked the trail to its endpoint marked by a wooden sign as the summit of Mt. Margaret?  If so, you didn’t actually go up Mt. Margaret!  Years ago, the USFS mistakenly built the final portion of the trail to an incorrect high point and placed a sign directing hikers to the wrong summit!  This easy snowshoe adventure will take us to that “trail” Mt. Margaret first.  Then we’ll make a short descent, return to another trail and soon go off-trail to the top of the “actual” Mt. Margaret.  It’s located about 0.4 mile NW of the “trail” summit, and it’s the one shown on the USGS quadrangle and National Geographic Trails Illustrated maps as well as on the sign at the trailhead.  The Forest Service has corrected the signage problems but it’s fun to get to both destinations—so on this snowshoe trip we’ll have fun exploring the false as well as the real summits of Mt. Margaret!  Getting up to the true summit involves limited Class 2+ terrain, but it’s a fun, easy scramble. To register, contact me by email (Steve Martin, falconridge@cowisp.net), or contact Brad Warren by email (bradwarren27@gmail.com).  No phone calls, please.
