The trip leader Scott Farquhar -

We will start at Bear Lake and travel down to the Glacier Gorge Trail. We will then follow the "Winter Trail" up towards the Loch/Mills Lake intersection. Before the intersection we will cut off trail below West Glacier Knob towards an un-named pond then up up a drainage. Once up to a plateau we will travel north-west to Lake Haiyaha. After checking out the lake we will retrace our steps down the drainage, but rather than traveling back to the winter trail we will continue down off-trail to Nymph Lake. We will follow the winter trail down from Nymph to Bear with an optional trip to the Bear Lake overlook and optional off trail powder run to Bear.

Note as of 12/5/19 the Winter Trail has not yet been traveled but the Fire Trail has. IF we need to take the Fire Trail it will add a bit of distance and off-trail travel to the trip making the trip a bit more difficult. I will keep participants posted.

This trip will be slightly more difficult than the distance implies due to the off trail travel. Since we will be going off trail you will need snowshoes and hiking poles with snow baskets. For folks new to the area you should note that the windchill at the lakes can be brutal so you should have face protection (like a balaclava or buff) and eye protection (I use goggles).
