Jim Guerra, 720-320-7262,

This is a loop hike from Palmer Lake Reservoir Trailhead (7200’), taking in the summits of Raspberry Mtn (8634’), Mt. Herman (9063’), and Chautauqua Mtn (8352’).  These three mountains dominate the western horizon from Monument and Palmer Lake in northern El Paso County.  This hike offers sweeping views of the southern Rampart Range as well as the area around Monument and Palmer Lake.

Details are as follows:  The trailhead is the Palmer Lake Reservoir Trailhead at 7200’ (Google Maps: ).   From there we will follow a trail up the north slope of Raspberry Mountain (8634’) to its summit.  From there we will follow the ridge further south to the summit of Mt. Herman (9063’).  From there we will follow the Mt. Herman trail (Trail 716) down the south ridge to the Mt. Herman Road.  We will follow the Mt. Herman Road a short distance west to where we take the Limbaugh Canyon Trail (Trail 715 – Upper) into Limbaugh Canyon.  From Limbaugh Canyon we will take Balanced Rock Road (FS 322) west up to a saddle.  From the saddle we will take the Chautauqua Mtn trail north along the ridge, crossing several false summits, to the summit of Chautauqua Mtn (8352’).  From that summit we will continue on the Chautauqua Mtn trail north down the ridge back to the Palmer Lake Reservoir Trailhead.

Some short sections of the trail on all three mountains are relatively steep.

The Bobcats’ mission is to ensure a variety of challenging CMC trips, mostly on weekdays, for our mostly age 50+ constituents. We don’t have dues or elections and we invite all CMC members to sign up for any Bobcats trip. We send out a monthly email with all the coming month’s trips just after those trips are activated. You can search the CMC Calendar for Bobcat trips any time by using an asterisk (*) in the the “Keyword Search” box. To join our free mailing list and become a Bobcat member, write or call CMC Membership Services at or (303) 279-3080.

The mileage allowance per car is 66 miles x .30 = $20.  This will be divided by the number of people in each car

There will be an optional celebratory stop after the hike for those who are interested.

Sorry it is past the registration deadline for this event.
