Scott Farquhar Trip Leader -

We will park at the Blue Lake Trailhead and walk the short distance to the Sawmill Trail. Here we will ski on-trail uphill for approximately 2 1/2 miles. At this point the group will cut off trail uphill through the powder to the west then to the south-west. The climb will be approximately 700 to 800 ft through what we "hope" is deep powder. At this point we will turn around and ski downhill through the trees back to the trail then down the trail to the trailhead.

Note the maximum slope will only be slightly above 20 deg so you will not need AT Equipment or Avalanche beacons. HOWEVER, due to the slope and since we will be skiing in the trees you will need shaped skis (BCX or Tele) with metal edges (not skinny skis) and skins (for the climb uphill). A helmet will not be "required", but I will be wearing mine on the way down. You also need to be comfortable skiing downhill on a decent slope, in the powder through the trees. In some past years even the final downhill trail section has been a bit icy making for an "exciting" ending to the day.
