Details

This is a roundtrip ski tour that follows a 2% grade over a distance of 5 miles, each way, with about 600 feet of ascent from Bakerville to the Loveland Valley Ski Area. The trail is paved, so pretty wide and smooth. Although the trail parallels I-70 it's almost entirely in the trees with the road only occasionally visible (although you will be able to hear it at times). There will probably be some snowshoe "punch" marks, along the trail, at times, but overall it's a pretty good experience for skiers with a few gentle downhill sections but mostly "kick and glide" terrain.

The pace for this trip will be casual with plenty of rest and snack breaks as needed. So, the trip is open to begginers - HOWEVER, begginers must bring their own skis and equipment and be able to make forward movement on skis without undue delay to the rest of the group. Please bring appropriate skis and equipment for this type of trip - please contact the leader if you have ANY questions!

Notes

The pace for this trip will be casual with plenty of rest and snack breaks as needed. So, the trip is open to beginners - HOWEVER, beginners must bring their own skis and equipment and be able to make forward progress without undue delays for the rest of the group. It's estimated we'll be on the trail for about 2 1/2 hours.

Participants are strongly urged to be prepared for difficult winter conditions - warm clothing, hydration, snacks, sun protection, proper wax or waxless skis, etc.(please contact your humble leader if you have any questions about what to bring!)

Since this area is relatively safe, and parallels I-70, we will not cancel unless weather conditions are hazardous - otherwise be prepared for very cold winter weather or, if we're lucky, a clear, calm day like I experienced when scouting and running this trip a couple times in January!

If you're not one of the drivers please be prepared to assist with gasoline/milage expenses.

Late lunch at an area restaurant will depend on traffic and group desires - Maybe Beau Jo's, The Tommy Knocker, or a bee-line back back to the Park 'n Ride?
