What level avy training have you completed, and when was it?

- Do you own (and are comfortable using), a beacon, shovel, and probe?

- Have you been on any other CMC ski trips?

- Roughly how often do you go backcountry skiiing (or snowboarding)?

Trip leader: Kahle Toothill,

Coleader: Trey Laurence,

Let's head out on a mellow backocuntry tour in Rocky Mountain National Park. Hidden Valley used to be an old ski resort and some of the cut runs still exist. This is an easy half-day tour. We will start at the parking lot (elevation 9,325') where there are ample parking spots and bathrooms.

The tour will follow an established skin track up an intermediate/blue slope. There are some short, steep sections that we will slowly navigate when we get to them. Despite these few short and steep sections, the average slope angle is 20-25 degrees. We will skin up to at least Trail Ridge Road and assess if the conditions allow us to keep going above the road. If we stop at Trail Ridge Road the elevation gain is 800'; if we go to the ridge line above the road the elevation gain is 1500'.

Requirements: Beacon, shovel, probe, AT ski gear or splitboard, food, water, warm layers. An NSP or AIARE Level 1 course is preferred. Be comfortable riding intermediate backcountry terrain (equivelant to black runs inbounds) and encountering unforseen obstacles.

**If it snows a lot the day before, we may change the plan and go to Banana Bowls in RMNP from the Bear Lake Trail Head. The Banana Bowls are low angle and often wind buffed but when it snows the turns are incredible**

The trip leader and co-leader are both splitboarders.

Meeting Place: NE side of Lucky's Market parking lot in South Boulder (695 S Broadway, Boulder, CO 80305) at 7:30am on Sunday, January 12. Anticipate to be back at the parking lot in Boulder between 2-3pm.

Note this trip is geared towards the Trailblazers (Social group for Colorado Mountain Club members in their 20s and 30s) subgroup of the CMC, but all are welcome to join.

Sorry it is past the registration deadline for this event.
