Details

Bald Mountain and True Mountain are the two peaks on the Palmer Divide in southern Douglas County just east of I-25, just north of the County Line Road exit off I-25 for Palmer Lake.  Bald Mountain is the highest point on the Palmer Divide.  We should have sweeping views from Pikes Peak to Longs Peak, of Palmer Lake, and most of the Rampart Range.  This hike is on private property but is protected though a conservation easement, so it will be a guided hike, arranged through the Douglas County Open Space folks.

Details on the trailhead location will be distributed via email 2 or 3 days before this hike

According to the Douglas County Open Space folks, we can expect early steep climbs up both peaks, could be snowy; trails are not maintained for winter, so bring your spikes  Nice views!  Bring a lunch. We will take a quick stop at the cars/restroom between Bald and True Mountains.

Each participant is expected to carry all of the 10 essentials.

Notes

This hike is a joint venture between the CMC Conservation committee as well as the CMC Denver group's Bobcats.

The Bobcats’ mission is to ensure a variety of challenging CMC trips, mostly on weekdays, for our mostly age 50+ constituents. We don’t have dues or elections and we invite all CMC members to sign up for any Bobcats trip. We send out a monthly email with all the coming month’s trips just after those trips are activated. You can search the CMC Calendar for Bobcat trips any time by using an asterisk (*) in the the “Keyword Search” box. To join our free mailing list and become a Bobcat member, write or call CMC Membership Services at office@cmc.org or (303) 279-3080.

The mileage allowance per car is 64 miles x .30 = $20.  This will be divided by the number of people in each car

There will be an optional celebratory stop after the hike for those who are interested.
