Description: A super easy trip covering six beautiful subalpine lakes in Mount Zirkel wilderness area.



Itinerary: 

Day 1 – Park at Buffalo Pass TH and enjoy lunch at nearby Summit Lake and then hike to campground and northwest east corner to find trail to Jonah Lake (0.6 miles, +60 ft, -200 ft). Set up camp on south area at least 100 feet from lake.

Day 2 – Day hike with fishing and swimming. Take faint trail on east side of Jonah to north end and follow creek to Whale Lake (approximately ½ mile), continue on east side of Whale Lake and follow creek to Shoestring Lake (approximately ½ mile), retrace steps back to meadow between Shoestring and Whale and take cross-county northeast over small ridge and descend westbound to Martha Lake (approximately 3/4 mile), travel southwest along shore of Martha Lake to open area south and faint trail southwest to George Lake (approximately ½ mile), continue around northwest side of lake and take trail in southern direction to Summit Lake campground and return to camp at Jonah Lake (approximately ¾ miles). Total for the day 3 miles, +/-500 feet elevation, and six lakes.

Day 3 – Pack up and return to cars at Buffalo Pass TH.

General Requirements: Hiking conditions are best from July through October. July can be buggy, but the flowers are best then.
