Details

This is the field trip associated with the Nav2 online course.

Prerequisite for participation is completion of both Nav1/Nav2 online courses and Nav1 field day. If you have not already registered and completed the TCS Nav online courses, learn more about them and/or enroll at the following links:

For the Nav2 field day, enrollment PASSWORD is provided in final module of Nav2 online course material.

Participants must also attend 7pm MT Weds (3 days prior to field day) webinar at ZoomLink. The conference will cover general Q&A about the course, review of Little Scraggy Peak route planning exercise, and logistics for subsequent field day.

The object of Nav2 Field day is to put into practice the skills acquired from the Nav2 online course. We will focus on Nav Core Competencies and acquiring field travel skills including orienting the map, position fixing, bee lining, leap frogging, handrailng, obstacle avoidance, and more.

Students will be required to relate terrain to a map, identify map features and also be able to determine field and map locations using a compass..

This class is a prerequisite for participation in Alpine Climbing School (ACS)

Notes

This won't be a high mileage day, as the main focus is to practical application of navigation skills presented via the TCS Nav courses. Most of the route will be off-trail.  It is important that you come prepared for cold or windy weather and rugged terrain. Bring essentials as you would for any CMC full day outing.
