Hike up Kelso's seldom-traveled north ridge to the summit.  This is a steep hike.  After about 3/4 mile on Forest Service roads, we will hike off trail up Kelso's north ridge.  We will gain over 2000 feet of elevation in under a mile.  But we will be rewarded with solitude and great views.  Pace up the steep sections will necessarily be slow.  From the summit we will have great views of Torreys and see lots of ants slowly working their way up the Grays and Torreys trail.  To descend, we may glissade what remains of the visible snowfield you can see from I-70 at the Bakerville exit.  Or depending on weather and the group we may continue south over the summit, connect with the Grays and Torreys trail and hike down the Stevens Gulch road to the starting point (this option will add about 2 miles to the distance).
