Details

Mt. Bierstadt is one of the easiest and most accessible of the 14ers. The hike starts at Guanella Pass (10 miles south of Georgetown, accessed by paved road). Most of the hike is on trail, although the top quarter mile requires easy scrambling over boulders.

2,850ft of gain in 3.5miles to the summit.

Pace will be moderate to moderately fast.

You should be in decent shape and have completed several class C or D hikes so far this season, and have been to elevation over 12k.

I plan on doing this route in 5 hours, moving as fast as we can in the conditions, 1000-1200 ft an hour. 3 hrs to the summit, 2hrs down. there will be short breaks to fule along the way, short break at the summit then head down.

I am training for Rainier and need to get in a training hike (30lb pack) but i have a commiment in Denver that i need to be back for no later then 1pm. If you are looking for a leisurely hike, this is not it.

I figured since i was heading up i would post a trip for it and see if anyone else was up for the challange, this will be my 5th time up the peak.

Gear:

You will need to have your 10 essentials

spikes

layers

normal hiking gear
