In the winter of 2019/20, CMC partnered with the Ouray Ranger District in Southwest Colorado to host a team of Snow Rangers to assist in patrolling, visitor education, user counts, partnership development and more.  The snow rangers primarily focused their efforts in the Red Mountain Pass area, as well as the Cimarron Mountains and Uncompahgre Plateau.

As backcountry skiing becomes more and more popular, especially during the pandemic when resort skiing may be limited, it is more important than ever to have an education and enforcement presence in the Colorado mountains to help ensure safe and responsible recreation.

Check out our BSI Film!

In 2017, Wool Hat Creative produced a film about the Colorado Mountain Club's BSI program called, "Human Power: The Backcountry Snowsports Initiative".  It was selected into the Backcountry Film Festival for 2018. It showcases the partnerships and hard work that goes into protecting the Colorado backcountry for human powered use. This work will ensure that future generations will enjoy it as much as we do now.
