BSTS Advanced Class Announcement 2019-20

(Using backcountry touring skis, not telemark or AT skis.).

This year we will offer an advanced class designed to give the student more experience skiing on and off trail. (Using backcountry touring skis, not telemark or AT skis.)

The class is designed for students who have taken the standard BSTS (or similar experience) more than once and have spent significant time skiing.  Conditioning is  important as we will be spending full days skiing.

The session days will be Saturdays January 4, 11, and 18, 2020.  The class size will be limited to 10 students.

The class will start with a day at the Breckenridge Nordic Center to review skiing techniques.  The following two days will be spent skiing in the backcountry, locations to be determined by snow conditions.

Notes

(Using backcountry touring skis, not telemark or AT skis.).

Learning goals include:

  • applying basic ski techniques to changing snow condition to improve efficiency in your skiing
  • selecting safe travel routes, descending and ascending, including climbing skin usage
  • improving basic techniques for controlling speed on or off trail
  • having fun regardless of the snow conditions

During the first day at the nordic center, the instructors will be evaluating the students’ abilities to qualify for the class and non-qualifiers will be moved to a more appropriate level class.

Note: this class is limted to CMC members only.
