This trip has been changed from Brainard Lake due to insufficient snow at Brainard.

We will not start at 12:00, but at a time and meeting place I will send in another email.

We will meet in Fort Collins at a time and location I will send in a separate email. There we will determine carpool arrangements. Those wishing to not carpool, please still meet us there so I can get a tally of participants. For those carpooling, ride share will be $10. I would like to limit to 3/vehicle.

This trip will begin with leaving a shuttle car(s) at the Meadows trailhead and everyone riding in remaining cars 2.5 miles to Zimmerman Lake trailhead. Masks are required in the cars. If you are nervous about covid, I suggest driving from Ft Collins with a partner in 2 separate cars and leaving one car at each TH. If you are uncomfortable with that, this may not be a good trip for you. CMC protocols require that on the trail masks be worn when folks are congregated closer than 6 ft. Masks may be removed when folks are exerting themselves and spaced 6' from others.

We will start with a good 600' ski from the TH up to Zimmerman Lake, ski the loop around the lake, then nice rolling terrain heading downhill to the Meadows trailhead to Long Draw Road ~1200 feet below Zimmerman Lake then to the Meadows TH.  Despite its name, the Meadows Trail mostly traverses rolling terrain through forested areas with several short but fun downslopes.  Total elevation gain for this trip is ~800 feet and the total descent is ~1400 feet.

I recommend waxless skis. Kicker skins could be useful for the initial climb to Zimmerman Lake and if we encounter any icy conditions. Full skins should not be necessary. If you are on waxable skies, I strongly recommend full skins or kicker skins.

I would recommend folks who have had the beginning XC class sign up for this trip. It is a good trip to continue to hone XC ski skills.
