Chris Kalman presents: Cochamo Dreams

(A Zoom link will be sent out prior to the program.)

When Chris Kalman first visited Cochamó in 2010, he had no idea how profoundly that experience would change his life. Today, after seven trips to Cochamó, Kalman is not only a respected and prolific first ascentionist in the so-called "Yosemite of South America", he is also one of Cochamó's staunchest and most outspoken advocates. Cochamó Dreams is no "rags to riches" story—at least not in the conventional sense. It's a story about climbing, conservation, and trying to figure out how to walk a fine line between loving a place, and loving it to death.

Chris Kalman is a climber of 20 years with first ascents to his name in Chile, Canada, and throughout the western United States. His writing has been published in Adventure Journal, Alpinist, Ascent, Climbing, Rock and Ice, Outside Magazine, and Patagonia's Catalog, as well as the American Alpine Journal where he has been an editor for five years. He is the author of a climbing fiction book, and a climbing guidebook, both shortlisted for awards at the Banff Mountain Film Festival. His latest book, Dammed If You Don't, tackles the tricky intersection between conservation and outdoor recreation, and will be available in June. You can preorder that book, and learn more at @climbwritekalman, or www.chriskalman.com.
