Family Climbing Skills

This two day course is for families who want to climb outside.   At the end of this 2-day session adults will be able to help their youth set up “top-rope” climbs at local Golden crags.  Adults should leave feeling confident that they can either set up or double check their youth's climbing anchors and belay.

  • October 14-15, 2017

Day 1: 9:00a - 2:00p. We will start at the American Mountaineering Center and transition to "Golden Cliffs" outdoor climbing area on North Table Mountain. Participants learn what gear is necessary in order to climb outdoors with your family and how to build simple climbing anchors.

Day 2: 9:00a - 2:00p. We will venture to another local outdoor climbing area in Golden, CO. Instruction will include practice building anchors, managing your safety on a cliff edge while building anchors, and belaying each other in a controlled and supportive learning environment.

**Enrollment fee is for one adult participant and their youth climber (age 12+).  We hope to build connections between youth and their adults with these new skills.  If you would like to enroll 2 adults instead of an adult and child combination please complete registration and then contact YEP via email of your plans.

Cost: CMC members - $200/participant; Non-members $250/participant. Includes climbing equipment and instruction.

Prerequisite:  prior experience climbing and belaying
