Youth Education School and Groups Overview

YEP provides multidisciplinary education linking Colorado Academic Standards (CAS) with Colorado’s greatest natural resource: the mountains. Using an experiential approach YEP courses are designed to present real-life examples of science, math, geography, history, and art in nature.

Programs are offered year round and can range in length from one hour to one week. Check out our Partnership Program to have YEP work with your students multiple times throughout the year.

If your group is in need of financial assistance, custom programming, or adaptations of any kind just let us know and we will be happy to work with you. Check out How to Schedule a Course for more information.

Curriculum

Unique classes are offered by season. Pick and chose classes listed in our Course Options to create your own custom program. Most groups combine 2-3 classes for a given day.  All programs are correlated to the Colorado Academic Standards (CAS) or can be customized to meet Scout Badge requirements or specific class needs. Learn more about courses by reading our Course Descriptions or contact Elsie Thomson with questions and to design a program that best suits your students.

Who can work with us?/Group Size

K-12 schools, youth groups and organizations (scout troops, afterschool programs, etc.): In a word, everyone! Depending on program location and curriculum, YEP can work with groups as large as 90 students at one time. In order to best promote learning and engagement, YEP prefers to break large groups into smaller sections and rotate students through stations. Recommended class lengths and rotations will be adjusted accordingly to ensure a hands-on experience for all students.

Course Locations

Many programs are flexible and can take place either at a local park/open space, at the American Mountaineering Center in Golden, or at your school. See our Course Options for program availability by locations.

Why work with YEP?

YEP staff is experienced in tailoring educational programs to meet the needs of all age groups and backgrounds. Our program is committed to making the mountains accessible to all students throughout the Denver Metro area. Since our start in 1999, we have introduced more than 70,000 youth of all backgrounds to Colorado’s mountain classroom.

" The program allows them to see that learning and challenges are presented to us outside of texts, passages and mathematical equations. This program has instilled leadership in some of my students and I couldn't be more grateful for it.”

- Kerry Andrews, 4th grade, Program Partner Schmitt Elementary
