Hiking – Berthoud Pass

Snowshoe from the Berthoud Pass parking lot about a mile up the trail. Practice skils for making a tent platform, cutting snow blocks, and boiling snow for water before hiking back to parking lot.

Think of this trip as a fun dry run for overnight adventures. Bring everything you’d need for an overnight stay if you’re looking to make it a serious practice session. I encourage everyone to try setting up their tent in the snow—it's a skill you will need. If you’re sticking to the day hike side of things, just remember to pack the essentials for a safe and comfy snowshoeing experience over 11,000 feet above sea level. And don’t forget the eleventh essential—a stove! We’ll all be working with those during the outing.

Please meet at the Wooly Mammoth Park-N-Ride, Lot BB (across from the Sinclair gas station up the road from the massive Maverick station) Saturday morning, 2/7/26 at 9:00 am with a planned departure of 9:30 am. We will arrange car pools when we meet. It's roughly 45-60 minutes from Wooly Mammoth to the Berthoud Pass summit parking lot. The goal for hitting the trail will be 11:00 am.
