Trip Report
Hiking Deer Creek Trailhead
Excellent hike on a sometimes rainy/thundering day. We had the trail to ourselves except near the TH. Alpine meadows, beaver ponds, moose tracks, fabulous views, congenial group well-matched for pace.

The trail was easy to follow all the way to our objective -- the intersection with the Three Mile Trail. There were about ten stream crossings, all relatively easy, and sometimes the trail was also a shallow stream. Very few wildflowers yet.
We knew there might be some snow patches starting at about 10,700' but encountered relatively little snow on our path. We did need to cross one snow field about 50 yards wide near our goal, but all the snow we encountered was very soft, shallow, and melting rapidly. No post-holing. We encountered some thunder for about 1/2 hour (we reviewed the lightning protocol with each other) plus intermittent rain and graupel, and even a minute of snowfall. But the temperature never dropped below about 40 degrees. Very pleasant and beautiful hike.
