TCS Basic Self Rescue - Modular Track

This class is the first of three rock self-rescue classes we offer. It is a prerequisite for all other rock rescue classes. It may be taken as a stand-alone class, or as part of the Alpine Climbing School "Modular" track.

This is an all-day class held at the CMC Climbing wall.

Completion of online learning is required before field day.

Prerequisite for this class is Intermediate rock.

Please note if you have not completed intermediate rock, but are registered and scheduled to complete it prior to this class, you can just email me and we will add get you added to the roster.  If you fail to complete intermediate rock before the class begins you will not be allowed to take this class and any refund will be in accordance with CMC policy.

We will cover three basic self-rescue skills:

1. How to do a belay takeover in a top rope environment

2. How to ascend a rope with prusiks

3. How to rappel past an obstruction in the rope

Course Requirements

This course has no scheduled activities.

Roster
Required Equipment
  • Helmet
  • Harness
  • Belay device with large locking carabiner (ex: Black Diamond ATC Guide or Petzl Reverso)
  • Autoblock with locking carabiner
  • Double runner with locking carabiner
  • At least 3 additional locking carabiners (yes, that is 6 total lockers minimum)
  • Waist prusik and Foot prusik (we will have material to make these if you do not have your own at this time)
  • Climbing shoes (optional)
  • Belay gloves (recommended, but not required)
