- Students will be introduced to climbing in snow and glaciated terrain and circumstances climbers should be aware of when traveling in such environments. Avalanche and crevasse awareness will be touched upon as well as the basics of what to look for during safe snow travel (this is not to take the place of a certified Avalanche Safety Course, however!). Also presented will be such concepts as snow hardness characteristics, snow climbing/crampon techniques, roped team snowfield travel, self-arrest, and certain types of snow equipment required when traveling in the snow environment.
- Students need to bring their boots and crampons to class and will be shown how to properly fit crampons onto their boots for the snow day. The Course Co-Directors will collect a crampon refundable deposit from those who will be borrowing crampons and axes from the Course.
Classroom sessions will start at 6:00 pm and end approximately 9:00 pm.
