This trip starts high and continues high -- perfect for those Ascending Hikers needing to prove to themselves they "can do it." For a regular trip, this would be on the high end of Moderate but I am calling it Challenging for those not used to this kind of hiking.
I'll write a day or two before trip day with weather and route conditions.
To receive the monthly Ascending Hikes Section newsletter, which contains a list of all upcoming Ascending Hikes, contact Membership Services at office@cmc.org and ask them to add you as an AHS member. No membership fee.
Please, if you are a long time CMC member not signing up specifically for the help offered by an Ascending Hike, but just to "do this trip," wait until 24 hours before trip day to join the roster, to ensure those seeking Ascending Hike help have first access.
Alert! This is a popular program. If there is a standby list, join it. Standby lists almost always clear. Your Trip Leader and AHS Coordinators put a lot of effort into planning section activities. Last minute cancellations and no-shows are very discouraging and insufficient numbers may jeopardize the program. We realize that “things happen,” however PLEASE DO NOT SIGN UP FOR AN AHS TRIP UNLESS YOU FULLY INTEND TO PARTICIPATE ON TRIP DAY.
Meet at 6:00 am to arrange carpools and equipment for a prompt drive-away, at Wooly Mammoth Park N Ride Section BB, across from the Exxon gas station. Because we will be hiking on an open ridge above tree line, we want to be back to the cars before any storm activity.
Required Equipment
10 essentials, Layers appropriate to the weather, lunch, hiking poles if you use them. If I find snow up there, you may need to bring microspikes.
