Ascending Hikes – Genesee Park - Genesee Mountain Trail Outer Loop
We will hike around Genesee Mountain to view the Denver Mountain Bison Herd, its tunnel under I-70, and holding pens, then summit Genesee Mountain and return to the cars. Because this is a relatively short and flat trip, we will work on our speed.

This is a relatively short, flat hike on the Genesee Mountain Trail. These conditions will allow us to concentrate on our speed. If you want to chit-chat or stop for lots of pictures, this hike is not for you! Although we will stop for bison pictures if we have the chance.
At one point we pass close to I-70 for a bit as we go by the Denver Mountain Parks Bison Herd's underpass between its pastures north and south of I-70. After that we skirt around most of the rest of the mountain, then turn up and summit Genesee Mountain, and finally return back down to the TH.
There are no restrooms at the TH but there are some about half way through the hike.
I will write you a couple of days before trip day with a weather update. If we get a big waiting list, we can split the group and do this loop trail in opposite directions.
Meet at Wooly Mammoth Park N Ride Section BB at 7:00 am to arrange carpools and a prompt drive-away. RT mileage is about 14 miles so carpool sharing is $5 to be shared by everyone in the car, including the driver. We'll proceed to the Genesee Mountain Trailhead on South Genesee Mountain Rd.
