Ascending Hikes Section: This is a 7-mile hike to Independence Peak in Pence Park, starting from O'Fallon Park, begins with a steady ascent through shaded pine forests, with the trail gradually becoming steeper and rockier. Along the way, you'll encounter scenic overlooks that offer sweeping views of the surrounding foothills and valleys. As you reach the summit, the trail opens up to expansive 360-degree views of the Front Range, rewarding your efforts with stunning vistas that make the moderate-to-challenging trek truly memorable. This is the third in a summer series of AHS hikes.

This is a reverse lollipop hike to Independence Peak in Pence Park begining in O'Fallon Park, where we'll follow the scenic Bear Creek Trail. This trail meanders through lush forests and alongside flowing streams, gradually gaining elevation. Upon reaching the junction with the Independence Mountain Trail, we ascend to the summit of Independence Peak, rewarded with panoramic views of the surrounding foothills and distant peaks. After soaking in the vistas, we'll descend and loop back via the West Ridge Trail, which provides a quieter, forested return route. The hike concludes back at the O'Fallon Park trailhead, offering a rewarding mix of varied terrain and beautiful scenery. Our pace will be comfortable for all group members. This hike is ~7 miles and ~1600 ft elevation gain. (Independence Peak - CalTopo)
