Ascending Hikes – Mount Morrison

Ascending Hikes Section (AHS): Mount Morrison is the biggest, baddest, rough and tumble, slog of a hike in the Denver Mountain Park system. It also may be the most exciting, most fun, and most scenic trail in the system as well. This relatively short hike up to the summit of Mount Morrison includes about 2000 ft of elevation gain. Mount Morrison is one of the most prominent peaks of Denver’s Front Range and its summit and foothills offer awesome vantage points of the other snowcapped mountains to the west and the Denver Metro area to the east. This is the fifth in a summer series of AHS hikes.

  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 3.8 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 2,000 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 7,862 ft
  • Pace: 1.5 - 2.0 MPH

We'll hike to the summit of Mount Morrison along the South Ridge, starting from the at the Titans Road Parking area near Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre. This out-n-back route will provide us with about 2000 feet of elevation gain over about 2 miles. The final approach to its summit makes a fun Class 2/3 hike on a steep terrain and we will need to scramble a bit in some areas to reach the summit. We'll find a comfortable, scenic, and sunny spot to stop for lunch/snack. Our pace will be determined by the strength, stamina, and endurance of the group. (Mount Morrison - CalTopo)

Carpool Place & Time: Meet at Morrison PnR at 7:30am, for a 7:45am departure (Morrison PnR - Google Maps)

We'll then carpool to the Mount Morrison Trailhead parking area (Mount Morrison South Ridge Trailhead - Google Maps)
