This often overlooked trail in the southern part of the Blue Sky Wilderness passes through a huge aspen forest and eventually meets the Cub Creek Trail. From there, the entire Wilderness is accessible.
A hike up this beautiful trail of mixed evergreen and aspen, up to the Cub Creek junction. Great views at times. There we will pause for lunch and then return the way we came. Bring microspikes in case of ice.
As a skill-builder hike, hoped to have something a bit more exciting but late snow cut off original choices. however, here are some things we can explore:
-
- See the US-285 area and the most common comfort stop. Many fabulous hikes here in our front range "banana belt."
- Start conditioning for higher altitude than winter close-in trips -- hike straight up to almost 11,000.'
- View an unusually old Limber Pine and a huge aspen grove
- Use gpx track, map, terrain profile
-
To the extent of your interest:
- Enter the vast Mt Blue Sky Wilderness and learn something about all the access points and fabulous
- Discuss CMC classes and sections appropriate for further learning.
We will write you a couple of days before trip day with a weather and route update.
Meet BY 7:00am. in the dirt parking area of the Morrison Park N Ride at C-470 and the Morrison exit, located between C-470 and the Phillips 66 station. The address is 3485 S Rooney Rd, Morrison, CO 80465. We have a brown Subaru with a Thule top. We'll set up carpools and transfer equipment, then make a prompt departure.
To the extent there is interest we can stop at the Snowpack Tavern on the way back for quick refreshments. A favorite stop. You can always change your mind but it helps with the passenger sorting.
We'll hop back on C-470 and drive one stop south to US-285 south, make a brief stop at the Loaf N Jug, 173 Bulldogger Rd, a favoritecomfort stop in the Bailey area. Most of us should buy a little something to thank them for use of their restrooms.
We'll then caravan to the nearby Meridian TH.
