Mid-week early-season backcountry touring near the East Portal TH. We'll make a decision on a route based on conditions, but expect the possibility that we prioritize just getting out and shaking off some rust.

We have several options depending on the snow conditions and group ability/interest. We'll discuss beforehand and I'll provide some caltopo maps that show the various options.
All participants are expected to have completed AIARE Level 1 or equivalent. We'll be following the AIARE framework throughout the day. This is always a great tool to help mitigate the risk involved with traveling with a new group. Everyone will be expected to participate in discussions about terrain choice, hazard analysis, etc.
We'll meet at the NEW CMC office at the corner of W 32nd Ave and McIntyre St in Golden at 6:55am, with the expectation to leave by 7:10am. We can determine how to carpool from there to the East Portal Trailhead, which is about a 1-hour drive from Golden.
