This hike is for Bobcat members attending the annual picnic - priority will be given to them.
We'll meet at 8:30 am at the parking lot for Tanglewood Park South (see details above). From there we'll use a newly opened access point for South Table Mountain (via the Jawbone Trail) to gain the mesa top. Once there we'll take the Basalt Loop to the newly opened T. Rex Trail and an overlook of the Colorado Amphitheater. We'll return in time for lunch after hiking about 4 miles with 400 ft. of elevation gain.
The Colorado Amphitheater (aka Zypher Amphitheater) was built in the 1930s and is on the National Register of Historic Places. It seats about 2500 people, second only to Red Rocks among Colorado amphitheaters. Used to show films to Colorado National Guard troops it fell into disuse when too many rattlesnakes showed up for the movies.
