This is a 2-Day overnight for newer backpacking section (BPX) members or someone looking to try out some new gear. We will hike in from the Guanella Pass TH toward Helms Lake. We will camp before the lake around 11,500' in elevation. The views of Mt. Bierstadt and Rosalie (later renamed Mt. Evans and now Mt. Blue Sky) in this area inspired some of Bierstadt's famous paintings in the Denver Museum of Art. I have seen Dusky (Blue) Grouse on the trail here which are coy and comical. The next morning we can decide to visit Helms Lake or head out. The pace will be leisurely with a total mileage of 6.5 miles for both days and a gain of 1,000'.
We will meet at the CMC basecamp at 8am for a 8:30 departure.
