Fly Fishing – Urad Lake State Wildlife Area

Let’s see some fall colors and try to catch a Tiger Trout (Brown x Brook hybrid). Colorado Parks and Wildlife heavily stocks Urad with catchable rainbows, tiger trout and grayling were stocked in 2022. Brook trout and cutthroat can be caught in the Woods Creek inlet. This is reservoir (lake) fishing with some trees on south side to challenge your back cast.

  • Mileage: 0.25 mi
  • Pace: Easy pace.

Practice your casting skills. There are trees in your backcast so be prepared to roll or off-hand cast to avoid snags and lost flies.

We will meet at the El Rancho RTD Park & Ride. Address is 29250 US-40
Evergreen, CO 80439.  (Looks like RTD is building a new Park & Ride across I-70. When that location is operational I'll update our meeting place.)

It's a 45 minute drive time to Urad Lake from the RTD parking meeting location. (1.5 hour total roundtrip drive time) 32 miles one way.

We will discuss carpooling at the RTD park and ride.
