  • High Point Elevation: 11,742 ft

This hike is on a well established trail to just beyond the Lower Diamond Lake, but after that it is mostly off-trail, some on tundra, but also on hard rock surfaces.  The reward is the view on the way to, and at Upper Diamond Lake, a beautiful alpine lake nestled up against Jasper Peak

Meet at the parking lot at Plainview Rd and Coal Creek Canyon Rd (CO Hwy 72) at 6:20am, so we can form carpools and leave no later than 6:30am.  This is 1.7 miles west of the intersection of CO 72 and CO 93.  Here is a Google Maps link to the meeting place at “9881 Plainview Rd, Arvada”: https://maps.app.goo.gl/NAgUWeDQCrMcF4UM9

The trailhead for this hike is the 4th of July Trailhead, west of Nederland.  Here’s a Google Maps link for the trailhead:  https://maps.app.goo.gl/ctmdVqHia6fukUjC7       The last 4 miles of the road to the trailhead are a bit rough, so our drivers will need vehicles with decent clearance, such as an SUV.  The parking at this trailhead fills up quickly, hence the early start.

For those coming from north of Arvada, we can also arrange to meet you either at Nederland High School
