Fourth of July Trailhead

Trip

Hiking – 4th of July TH to Lake Dorothy

The Arapaho Pass and Lake Dorothy Trail is one of the most popular trails in Indian Peaks Wilderness, and for good reason. The trail climbs through the forest, then opens up to views of the Diamond Lake area, Arapaho Peaks, and Diamond Creek Falls. Watch out for wildflowers as we travel up the pass towards Lake Dorothy, which will probably be an icy frozen lake in June.

  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 7.0
  • Elevation Gain: 2,000 ft
  • Pace: 2.0mph

There may still be some snow/ice to deal with on the trail, and a creek crossing or two. Be prepared with waterproof shoes and microspikes.

Meet at the Wooley Mammoth Park and Ride at 7am. We will coordinate carpools to the trailhead. NOTE - the road to 4th of July Trailhead is extremely bumpy and washboarded. AWD and up cars should be able to handle it, but only offer to drive if you are comfortable navigating such a road for a few miles.
