This is a Trailblazer hike to Helms Lake from the Abyss Trail. 12 miles, 2500 feet of gain and will be a challenging hike.

From alltrails. This is a dog friendly hike as long as they are leashed.
Head out on this 11.7-mile out-and-back trail near Grant, Colorado. Generally considered a challenging route, it takes an average of 5 h 55 min to complete. This is a very popular area for birding, hiking, and walking, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are May through September. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.
Bring spikes just in case.
