  • Mileage: 10.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 3,000 ft
  • Pace: 2.5 mph

We will return to cars 10:30-11:00p

To maximize our time for views, we will move at a good pace up Fern Canyon to the summit. Stop and eat at the summit, then descend when sufficient moonlight.  Enjoy our descent in the moonlight, then pick up the pace where Bear Canyon enters the woods, slowing again as the view opens.

You should have conditioning for 1,500'/hour gain and plan to summit Bear in 1.5 - 1.75 hours.  If familiar with the route, that is ~ 1 hour+ to the saddle then ~30min+ from saddle to summit.

NCAR Parking 6:30 departure. We have a date with the Sun and Moon and they, nor I do not wait.
