Hiking – Boulder Open Space - Mount Sanitas

This hike was changed to Mount Sanitas via Lion's Lair, at the last minute. RMOTHG MEMBERS ONLY - I consider the hike up to Sanitas a "kinder/gentler" Manitou Incline. There are lots of steps and we'll gain around 1,260' in a mile. After enjoying the top, we'll hike down Lion's Lair and Sunshine Canyon Trails completing our loop. We'll have views of the Continental Divide on the way up and a bird's eye view of Boulder at the top. Lion's Lair meanders along a lovely Ponderosa Pine Forest and has a nice gradual decline (which we will all appreciate) as we descend back to the trailhead. Make sure you read the Leader's Notes below!!!

  • Moderate
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 4.2 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 860 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 6,800 ft
  • Pace: Casual Up, Moderate Down

SPIKES ARE MANDATORY!!!  You must be willing to carpool as we will bring 2 cars max to the TH.  We will park at the Centennial Trailhead at the beginning of Sunshine Canyon (just past Mapleton).  This could be very tricky as it is so popular.  If there is no parking, we will drive further up the canyon and park at the Lion's Lair parking lot (which is also small) or if all else fails, we'll hike Betasso.

I'll have a south and north Boulder location - 7:45AM
