Hiking – Canyonlands - Island in the Sky

Part of the Western Slope Group's "Fall Canyons" trip.  Participants must be registered for the Fall Canyons trip.

This will be a challenging hike down and back on a steep trail. According to the U.S. National Park Service Map and Brochure for Canyonlands National Park, there is a trail all the way from the trailhead to the White Rim Road. In reality, there is a trail for much of the route, but on the steep section where one hikes down into Lathrop Canyon, much of the trail has been washed out. As a result of the trail being poorly defined in the steep section, hiking down through this section will require some scrambling on loose rock and dirt. It will be imperative that hike participants stay together, and within sight of each other on this section.  Participants should be comfortable with scrambling on loose rock and dirt!

Bring plenty of water!
