DOGGIE Hike-Dogs welcome, but not required. Rim Rock Trail to Creek Trail Loop. This hike will include great views, a bit of history, and a waterfall. PLEASE read LEADER NOTES to determine if this is a hike for you.

  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 4.6 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 603 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 6,600 ft
  • Pace: doggie casual (about 1.5-1.8 mph)

Please answer the question about whether you plan to bring a dog as you register.

This hike is rated as moderate by All Trails. While easy-moderate overall, there are several challenges along the way. The trails include several sections of narrow, steep rock stairways, both ascending and descending, as well as other sections with more random rocks. We will take these sections slowly, offering help to others as needed.

While I hope that the trails will have dried out after two weeks of warm, dry weather, when I scouted the trail (the day after our last snowfall) there were a number of sections of slippery mud. BRING A CHANGE OF SHOES and a bag for muddy boots. I plan to reapply some waterproofing to my boots, as I ended up with soggy socks when scouting.

We will make a "day of" decision about whether to go up to the top of the dam, based on trail conditions and the will of the group (adds about 1/4 mile to the trip).

Rim Rock trail is well named, as there is a long stretch of flat rock along the rim of the canyon, where it is easy to lose the trail. I needed to consult All Trails several times to makes sure I was still on trail. A pocket full of patience may be required.

For those with dogs: all dogs MUST be on a 6 ft lead at all times (no extension leashes). Remember that your dog may get muddy, so a towel may be handy before getting back in the car. Consider your dog's fitness for climbing up and down many rock stairs. Please read Denver CMC dog policy.

Carpools will meet at the southeast section of Cabela's parking lot, far to the left facing the store (10670 Cabela Dr Lone Tree) at 8:00 for departure at 8:10. Please let me know if you plan to meet us at the trailhead (1st trailhead after entering the west entrance of the park) at 8:40. Please call if you are delayed: 703-774-6266

Cabela's will not be open when we gather, so no bathrooms will be available. There is a vault toilet at the trailhead.

NOTE: The time (Cabela's to Cabela's) to complete this trip is estimated to be 4.5 hours BUT trail conditions and the pace of the group, as well as unexpected incidents such as injury, may result in a later return. Please plan accordingly.
