From Johanna Van Waveren, the former Executive Director of the Colorado National Monument Association: "Join retired geologist and former park ranger Don Regan for an unforgettable hike into the heart of desert bighorn sheep territory. Discover these magnificent creatures, renowned for their powerful horns and incredible ability to thrive in challenging environments. While the thrill of spotting bighorn sheep is a highlight, remember that nature operates on its own schedule. This 5-mile, 4-5 hour moderately strenuous hike offers a chance to immerse yourself in the Monument’s stunning scenery, regardless of wildlife sightings. Bring binoculars or a spotting scope to maximize your viewing experience, along with ample water, snacks, layers, and a packed lunch."

Don is also an active CMC WSG member. Before hiking, Don will do a 20-30 minute sheep bio and ecology overview at the TH with specimens and references. We greatly appreciate Don sharing his knowledge with us!

No dogs please.

Let's meet at the Lower Monument Trailhead on highway 340 at 9am. Carpools will be organized closer to the trip date.
