Hiking – East Portal TH - Heart Lake
Let's hike to Heart Lake in the James Peak Wilderness from the East Portal Trailhead. It's a challenging hike of 9.6 mi, with about 2,200' of elevation gain, moving about 2 mph. A nice wooded start gives way stunning lakes above treeline.

Other than the length and elevation, there's nothing particularly tricky here. Plan on the standard fall kit; plenty of layers and microspikes just in case.

The primary meeting point is the East Portal Trailhead by Moffat Tunnel at 7:20 for a 7:30 departure. Plenty of parking at the trailhead, though carpooling may still be easier. More details / coordination to follow for registered participants.
