We will enjoy a scenic hike within the Bobcat Ridge Natural Area of the northern foothills. We will begin heading WNW on the fairly flat Valley trail to the base of the D.R. trail, which ascends for 3.2 miles with a 1,100' gain through pines and grassy open spaces. Along this route we are likely to spot wild turkeys and deer, along with sweeping views of the surrounding mountains. At the high point, we will want to take our lunch break before descending 1.5 miles down the steep Powerline trail back to the Valley trail. Finally, we will follow the Valley trail SSE back to the trailhead. In early spring, this trail could be subject to closure due to muddy conditions, but hopefully we will be able to enjoy this pleasant hike. Please bring your essentials, water, lunch, raingear, and sturdy hiking boots. Poles can be helpful, particularly for the steeper descent.
We will meet at JJ's corner station on the south end of Fort Collins, (4015 S. Taft Hill Rd -- NW corner of S. Taft Hill Rd. & Co.Rd. 38E), at the NE edge of the parking lot at 8:00 a.m. From here we will carpool 11 miles SW to the Bobcat Ridge Natural Area parking lot near Masonville. Parking at the TH is free.
