Our tour starts at the Horsetooth Mountain Park and follows the Horsetooth Rock Trail to just below the summit block. At that point it then takes a right onto a relatively new connector trail that leads to the West Ridge Trail. The West Ridge trail is followed to a junction with an unnamed trail that leads to the radio towers at the top of the Towers Trail. It ascends to the radio towers and then descends the Towers Trail to a junction with the Spring Creek Trail. The tour continues by descending he Spring Creek Trail to a junction with the Horsetooth Falls Trail and concludes with a return to the trailhead via the Horsetooth Falls Trail.
We will be hiking at an easy to moderate pace of 2 miles per hour with frequent stops along the way to take in the diverse views of the front range and the reservoir.
This is a great beginner hike for those that are looking for just a wee bit longer hike close to home.
Let's meet at 7:30am at JJs Gas Station and Mini-Market. It is located on the NW corner of the intersection of S Taft Hill Road and Count Road 38 E (aka W Harmony Road) in Fort Collins.
We can carpool from there to Horsetooth Mountain Park (which requires a Larimer County Parks Permit). I have room for up to 4 passengers. There will be no carpool fee collected since the trailhead is only another 20 minutes from the meetup location.
Required Equipment
While this is a front-country hike and close to town, it is still recommended that you bring the 10 essentials.
